The agreement between the artist and Modern Master Tapestries Inc. states an edition of 20 (RLF Archives). No formal numbering system was established. Tapestries without a known edition number are designated by the authors "unkn" and organized by number in the assumed order of production based on sales information found in Castelli Gallery inventory records, agreements between the artist and Modern Master Tapestries and Modern Master Tapestries royalty reports and letters ranging from 1979 to 1986.
The authors established version numbers to distinguish design variations within the edition, followed by letters if there was more than one tapestry produced within a version:
- Version 1 was woven after the artist's initial design
- Version 2 reflects a small revision by Lichtenstein (see drawing 1991.169.6 at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., Gift of Regina Slatkin)
- Version 3 is the approved final design
- Versions 4, 5, 6 and 7 show slight weaving variations of version 3 due to lack of quality control during production
After the publisher closed c. 1986–87, at least three unauthorized pieces were ordered from Adhiraj Exports. Per the fabricator these were ordered by William D. Weber (one tapestry in 1998), Charles Zalber of Galerie Lucie Weill & Seligman, Paris (one tapestry in 2006), and Barry Cronan Fine Art, London (one tapestry in May 2006). Entries with an asterisk (*) mark unauthorized pieces.
